Mountain Bike to the Bridge to Nowhere, 42 Traverse or Fishers TrackMountain Bike the 42Traverse, Fishers Track, Old Coach Road or ride the Mangapurua Track1 day Bridge to Nowhere The Bridge to Nowhere stands as a poignant memorial to the abandoned dreams of many Returned Servicemen who tried to farm the Mangapurua Valley during the early 1900's. The areas difficult access and heavy rainfall, plus the onset of The Great Depression eventually saw every family walk off the land. Surrounded by regenerating native bush, the Bridge to Nowhere can only be accessed by jet boat, canoe or mountain bike. The mountain bike track was once used by horse and cart to transport settlers to and from the Valley. Following its inclusion in the National Cycleway, it is said to be the North Island’s “best adventure ride.” Snowy Waters Lodge has teamed up with proud tangata whenua hosts; Brent and Claire Firmin of Spirit of the River Jet to bring you the Snow2Water package which includes: * Two nights accommodation at Snowy Waters Lodge Other local tracks (self-drive): Fishers Road (National Park) – Grade 2, 17kms long and 95% downhill with a 520m descent Ohakune Old Coach Road (Ohakune) – Grade 2, an old stage coach road used before the main railway between Auckland and Wellington opened Mountain bike hire is available from TCB in Ohakune |
