Ski or Snowboard Mt Ruapehu

One of three active volcano’s that make up Tongariro National Park, Mt Ruapehu is home to New Zealand’s two largest commercial ski areas. Turoa on the south-western slopes and Whakapapa on the northern slopes both offer world-class learner’s facilities as well as advanced terrain for experienced skiers and boarders.

Turoa, due to open on the 19^th June 2010 invested in a high speed 6-seater express chairlift in 2008 while Whakapapa (opening 26^th June 2010) is due to open its brand new Knoll Ridge Café this coming July.

Snowy Waters Lodge is 30 minutes drive from Turoa ski area and 45 minutes drive to Whakapapa.

Typically the ski areas close late October however in recent years Turoa has seen the season extended until early November.
